Spring 2022 Updates Parish Council Priorities 2022
Speeding in the Village - The Parish Council have purchased and installed two vehicle activated speed signs - one permanent and one shared with Birdsall and Scagglethorpe. The aim is to regularly monitor traffic flow and speed into and out of the village.
These are generally placed at the main artery through the village on the entrance on Leavening Rise and the bottom of York Road.. Signs are activated when motorists go over the designated speed limit and data is collected anonymously to track speeding trends on a daily basis. This information is accessible to the Parish Council and will be used to monitor the speeding issue which has been raised by residents. We will report findings to residents at the annual village meeting.
20 is Plenty Campaign - We are keen to hear the views of residents on whether speeding is a sufficient enough concern to consider various courses of action including whether to join this lobbying group to press for a 20 limit in parish areas across North Yorkshire. If we were to adopt this approach this local level approach we would have to address a number of issues. Further information on the campaign can be found here: https://www.20splenty.org/
Ryedale Plan - A number of development sites have been submitted by landowners in and around Leavening and these form part of proposals for Ryedale District Council's long-term development plan. At this stage, it is unclear what the merger into a unitary North Yorkshire Council means for planning and the Parish Council is monitoring the situation. Residents have been advised to feed their views directly into the consultation and consideration of our position will be made at an appropriate meeting of the Parish Council.
