Verge Cutting around the Parish Verge cutting continues to be the responsibility of North Yorkshire Council and last year the Parish Council agreed to allow them to continue cutting of agreed areas in the Parish boundary to ensure road safety and visibility on our roads.
North Yorkshire Council continues to review its approach to sustainable cutting of verges, which on a network of 1000s of miles across the County is challenging. The Parish Council does review this regularly based on the feedback from residents.
As a village, we are due up to 4 cuts in the village per year. Please see the website for information on locations. Anywhere outside of the Parish boundary is outside our jurisdiction but if you do identify and overgrown areas, please report this to North Yorkshire Highways at your earliest convenience. e.g. Gally Gap and Langton Crossroads..
We note that some landowners choose to cut their verges as they feel is appropriate.
On this issue the Parish Council believes there is a need to balance rural road safety with biodiversity needs. This can be difficult to achieve and residents are asked to consider prioritisation of safety in the context of our rural setting.
You can find out more about what verges are cut across the area by using the North Yorkshire Council Spectrum Spatial Analysis site: Spectrum Spatial Analyst (northyorks.gov.uk)
